Ad Hoc is a proud sponsor of Write/Speak/Code and their mission to support technologists of marginalized genders. On August 16–18, Write/Speak/Code will be holding its annual conference in San Francisco with members of Ad Hoc’s team in attendance. In the past, our team members have used the company’s continuing education allowance to attend the Write/Speak/Code conference. This year, we want to do more.
We take seriously our responsibility as stewards of social infrastructure as we participate in the ongoing digital transformation of public services. Although bringing together a diverse team in our industry can be challenging, we need a team that reflects the diversity of our country, not just because it makes for better digital services, but because it’s the right thing to do. We work to counter bias, conscious and unconscious, in our recruiting process and ensure everyone on our team can feel supported in being their authentic self.
However, we can’t just support those of marginalized genders within our own company and stop there. If we’re going to rely on digital channels to support the weight of our nation’s public services, we need support structures within our industry that are commensurate to the challenge as a whole. Write/Speak/Code is a piece of that structure, and it’s our privilege to support their work as a Bronze sponsor.
In addition to the sponsorship, we’re pledging our internal referral bonus of $2,000, which normally goes to an employee who refers a candidate that we hire, to Write/Speak/Code for anyone that we hire who hears about us in connection with them. When applying to a position, all a candidate needs to do is enter “Write/Speak/Code” in the “employee referral” or “how did you hear about us” fields and we’ll donate $2,000 to Write/Speak/Code if we hire that person. We hope our effort will help support technologists with marginalized genders both at Ad Hoc and in the tech community at large.
