Late last year, Ad Hoc learned that we had won a new contract to support the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) in designing and building HealthCare.gov.
Ad Hoc is honored by CMS’s continued trust in the work of our team, and we’re thrilled to continue putting our team’s collective skills towards creating an intuitive and reliable experience for people signing up for healthcare.
This contract, called Web Development Services 2.0 (WDS 2.0), is a continuation of Ad Hoc’s current work on HealthCare.gov. Together with our subcontractors Oddball, Corbalt, Semantic Bits, and Palladian Partners, we will continue to support the CMS Web and Emerging Technologies Group as they improve the underlying tools that enable users to search, compare, and apply for the health care insurance that works best for them.
Ad Hoc has been working on HealthCare.gov since 2014. Over the years, our team has worked with CMS to build user-friendly ways for people to compare health care plans, tools to complete healthcare-related tax forms, and ways for people to connect with local help when choosing their plan.
To support the foundations of HealthCare.gov, we helped build an authentication process that is integrated with both the HealthCare.gov and Medicare.gov marketplaces. We’ve worked to implement infrastructure that reduces costs for our partners at CMS, and we’ve continued to deprecate legacy application processes. We’ve also streamlined the users’ journey, allowing for more people to complete their application faster.
As the HealthCare.gov ecosystem has grown, we’ve created APIs to give third parties access to critical data, documentation and tools for developers, and a design system to ensure a cohesive look and feel across the ecosystem of applications. HealthCare.gov is now a flexible site able to evolve to meet the changing needs and expectations of users. Ad Hoc is proud to have supported CMS in achieving this important outcome for such a critical digital service.
Ad Hoc’s first value is “work on things that matter.” Building a reliable, stable, and easy-to-use application to connect millions of people with a healthcare plan that’s right for them is why the Ad Hoc team comes to work every day. We’ve seen the kind of damage that a poorly functioning application can do to the public’s trust in government. We want to help the government close the gap between consumer expectations and government services, and our work on HealthCare.gov is central to that mission.
